Matric Dance 2015

Matric Dance 2015

A MATRIC DANCE here in South Africa is very similar to a senior prom in America. It’s a dance specifically for the students in their last year of high school. The dance entails dressing up, doing your hair and make-up and of course finding that perfect date. You deffs do not want that awkward date or experience.

This is what I learnt from this experience…

1.      Your date.
If you don’t have a boyfriend, ask a very close friend who will not make things awkward and will make sure you have a lot of fun! Make sure you have your date secured at least 3 months before.
I was fortunate enough to have a very good friend. (Who ended up being a lot more :P)

2.      Your hair.
You do not want to be stressed on your special day, so I suggest you head to the salon and make sure you go for a trial. If you prefer to do your own hair then make sure you practice at least TWICE!!

3.      Your makeup.
Either ask somebody else to do it for you or do it yourself, but in each case make sure you try out the look first!!!

4.      Your dress.
I would go for a long dress; it is more elegant and formal than a short cocktail dress. DO NOT WEAR A BOOB-TUBE (a strapless dress). You DO NOT want to be worrying about your dress slipping from your body mid dance.

5.      Your shoes.
I suggest get something that is not complicated to slip on or too high that you cannot even walk in them properly! You don’t want to be falling on your face as you’re walking up the entrance!

This is what I wore to my Matric Dance:

2015… What a (Half) Year

2015… What a (half) year
Well where do I begin? I sure have forgotten about my blog and was reminded of it by my dear boyfriend. (Even though he really deserves a little slap on the head :P)

I started 2015 as a grade 12 learner, my last year of school (YIPPEE!) and it has been one of the most hectic years of my life. I was voted on to the 2015 prefect body and it has been a lot of work! I don’t regret anything though. Through this time though a few friends were lost but many new friends were gained.

This year showed me flames: peers’ wise and work load wise. This probably makes no sense… I found through this year when you are put into a leadership position, your fellow peers start to treat you differently because you are trying to enforce the rules. They start to try and find the smallest of things wrong with you and accuse you if stupid things.

Work load seemed to have increased!! I am very nervous and scared for my trial exams and my final exams. My trial exams are to be written in September and are basically there to prepare Matrics (grade 12 learners) for the final exams. The final exams determine whether or not we pass grade 12 and obtain our Nation Senior Certificate (i.e matric certificate = diploma in America, IDK what it is in England)

Lastly the greatest experience that has impacted my life this year would have to be the various applications to university! (College in America)… This has to be the most stressful thing that happens to any Matric learner… I will go into detail about such in another post…
For now this was basically my year so far (sort of)… This was just a very GENERAL overview of my 2015 (half) year

Love,
Sarah Rose xx

P.S I finally turned 18!! Wehey! I can finally drive and drink legally (but not at the same time:D)
