18th Birthday Party (Debutante's Ball)

So recently one of my closest friends since birth (my sister from another mister) celebrated her 18th birthday. It is a Filipino tradition to give the girl a huge birthday party for coming of age; it is basically a debutantes ball.

The theme was black and white. Everybody had to dress formally in either black or white. The girls looked absolutely stunning and the boys looked rather dashing and handsome, considering most of them were a year younger than me.

It was a lovely event shared with close family and friends. It was also rather unusual for me. My mum is not really big on tradition so this was my first debutantes ball (No, I didn’t celebrate my 18th birthday; it was in the middle of mid-term exams).

There was a special ceremony of representing 18 roses and 18 candles. The girls represented the 18 candles and the guys gave the birthday girl each a rose, a total of 18! After that she and her father opened the dance floor with the traditional father-daughter dance which was followed by each guy dancing with her. After the ceremonial dances were the 18 wishes. This is basically giving the gift to her and making a lovely sappy speech.

The food was amazing and delicious. Especially the light chocolate mousse pudding! After all the formalities were finished, we broke out on the dance floor and danced all night! Boy, were all our feet sore!! It was an amazing night, one that I would never forget!

Here are some snaps of the evening!

Matric Dance 2015

Matric Dance 2015

A MATRIC DANCE here in South Africa is very similar to a senior prom in America. It’s a dance specifically for the students in their last year of high school. The dance entails dressing up, doing your hair and make-up and of course finding that perfect date. You deffs do not want that awkward date or experience.

This is what I learnt from this experience…

1.      Your date.
If you don’t have a boyfriend, ask a very close friend who will not make things awkward and will make sure you have a lot of fun! Make sure you have your date secured at least 3 months before.
I was fortunate enough to have a very good friend. (Who ended up being a lot more :P)

2.      Your hair.
You do not want to be stressed on your special day, so I suggest you head to the salon and make sure you go for a trial. If you prefer to do your own hair then make sure you practice at least TWICE!!

3.      Your makeup.
Either ask somebody else to do it for you or do it yourself, but in each case make sure you try out the look first!!!

4.      Your dress.
I would go for a long dress; it is more elegant and formal than a short cocktail dress. DO NOT WEAR A BOOB-TUBE (a strapless dress). You DO NOT want to be worrying about your dress slipping from your body mid dance.

5.      Your shoes.
I suggest get something that is not complicated to slip on or too high that you cannot even walk in them properly! You don’t want to be falling on your face as you’re walking up the entrance!

This is what I wore to my Matric Dance:
Dress: Designed and made by my lovely cousin
Shoes: Foschini

Bag: A friend’s
Home made back drop for the mini photo shoot

Hair done by Garreth and John Salon

Dress done by lovely cousin Luzvie

Sweetest boyfriend and date ever :)

2015… What a (Half) Year

2015… What a (half) year
Well where do I begin? I sure have forgotten about my blog and was reminded of it by my dear boyfriend. (Even though he really deserves a little slap on the head :P)

I started 2015 as a grade 12 learner, my last year of school (YIPPEE!) and it has been one of the most hectic years of my life. I was voted on to the 2015 prefect body and it has been a lot of work! I don’t regret anything though. Through this time though a few friends were lost but many new friends were gained.

This year showed me flames: peers’ wise and work load wise. This probably makes no sense… I found through this year when you are put into a leadership position, your fellow peers start to treat you differently because you are trying to enforce the rules. They start to try and find the smallest of things wrong with you and accuse you if stupid things.

Work load seemed to have increased!! I am very nervous and scared for my trial exams and my final exams. My trial exams are to be written in September and are basically there to prepare Matrics (grade 12 learners) for the final exams. The final exams determine whether or not we pass grade 12 and obtain our Nation Senior Certificate (i.e matric certificate = diploma in America, IDK what it is in England)

Lastly the greatest experience that has impacted my life this year would have to be the various applications to university! (College in America)… This has to be the most stressful thing that happens to any Matric learner… I will go into detail about such in another post…
For now this was basically my year so far (sort of)… This was just a very GENERAL overview of my 2015 (half) year

Love,
Sarah Rose xx

P.S I finally turned 18!! Wehey! I can finally drive and drink legally (but not at the same time:D)

I Am a Terrible Blogger

Hey there Reader!

Hmmm... So I have been a terrible blogger this year... I can explain though๐Ÿ˜ where to begin...
I don't have a laptop or computer where I can do my work. I have to use my mum's laptop. The next problem would be that I did not have internet. For my birthday I got an iPad 2 which I now use for all my social media. Before when my laptop was still working I had a USB stick which I affectionately called my "dongle". In order for me to use my iPad I had to take out the sim and put it in my iPad thus rendering the use of my "dongle".

But now a month ago my mother had repurchased a new "dongle" and SIM card for her laptop. I have yet to get myself a laptop.. Guys I'm so broke๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜“.. But at least now I can use my mum's laptop with internet access. I'm so keen!

But this couldn't have come at the worst time ever! I'm currently in the middle of my final exams at school ( grade 11 finals) and I will be only be done on the 28 November 2014!

BUT (wow I have used 3 'buts' consecutively) I will be starting this all up again this Summer!๐Ÿ˜ yes the summer, as in this coming month!  I live in South Africa so it is currently summer๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒผ I have so munched planned and I am so keen to start, so keen that is has distracted me from my studying numerous times!

I will be starting up SUMMER HOLIDAY VLOGS on my Youtube channel on the 29 November 2014. This is where I will try and vlog everyday of my summer and post on my blog every day ordinary things I feel like blogging about. This will keep me busy during the holiday and this is also a way for me to document my holiday. This could be fun! An internet adventure! ๐Ÿ˜✌️
So subscribe to my channel if you would like to check it out!

Well this is it for me! I have to now get back to my Accounting books๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Nutella Hot Chocolate

Hey Reader!

So I have a confession...
I am guilty of having an affair
....with my Nutella...
That sounded better in my head.. Now it just sounds creepy and weird.. Well this post has started off brilliantly hasn't it...
ANYWAY!!!

I've made theeee best hot chocolate ever and it's just brilliantly creamy, sweet and just filled with Nutella chocolately goodness!
If you're a chocolate fan or Nutella fan or both you'll enjoy this recipe!
Are you interested? If so read onnnnnnn!

WARNING: THIS RECIPE IS VERY SWEET

What you'll need:
3/4 cup Milk (full cream, low fat, vanilla milk, any kind works)
1 1/4 tsp cocoa powder
2 tsp sugar
1 TBSP Nutella
Whip cream (optional)
Marshmallows

Method:
- add the cocoa powder and sugar in a cup
- pour your milk into the cup and stir the cocoa and sugar in
- yes there will be some "cocoa bubbles" where the cocoa hasn't dissolved, don't stress :p
- pop the cup into the microwave for 2min. Watch that it does not overflow and spill everywhere, if you see it do that, take it out and stir the mixture then pop it back in
- once the 2min is over take it out and stir the mixture till the "cocoa bubbles" are gone
- take the Nutella and mix it in! Keep mixing till the Nutella has come off the spoon
- once the mixing is all done get the whip cream and go wild!
- add the marshmallows on the top and you're all done!

As you can see I didn't put any whip cream on mine but it tatsed amazing none the less! This is super sweet and probably super unhealthy but it's great to treat yourself once in a while :)

April Favourites

Hey reader! :)

So this blog post is all about my April Favourites!! I don't actually have a lot of things to talk about just misc. stuff. I've had a very hectic month so there's not a lot of stuff.

Music:
  • I've been loving John Legend's new album Love In The Future in particular, "All of Me" and "You & I (Nobody In The World)". These 2 songs have been my jams for the past 2 months!!
  • I've also been loving Boyce Avenue. Their voices are amazing!!

Links to the songs:
"All of Me - John Legend"
"You & I (Nobody In The World) - John Legend"

Boyce Avenue (Their channel)

Books:
I have been reading my English and Afrikaans (the second language I study at school) set work books.

  • The Great Gatsby by F.Scot Fitzgerald, my English set work book.
  • Fiela se Kind by Dalene Matthee, my Afrikaans set work book.
Both these books are beautiful and I highly recommend you read them. Do you read The Great Gatsby as a set work book in other countries??
Even though Fiela se Kind is an Afrikaans written book I hightly recommend you read it as there is an English Version of this book which you can purchase here: Fiela's Child

Beauty:
Unfortunately I have nothing new beauty related :( As I'v hit a dry spell cash wise. Hopefully I'll have some kind of beauty review for next month :)

Food/Drink:
I have been loving this Marshmallow Sparkling Water drink from Cape Aqua! Oh my heavens!! IT SMELLS EXACTLY LIKE MARSHMALLOWS!!! Though.. This is not healthy at all.. Unfortunately..

TV Shows/Movies:
  • I had just finished watching the latest season of Haven. OH MY WORD!! asdfghjkl!! THE BEST THING EVER!! Go check it out!! It's loosely based on Stephen King's book The Colorado Kid. If you are into the whole paranormal/mystery thing, this is for you!!
  • My favourite movies this month would be Frozen and Scott Pilgrim VS. The World
I think this is all my favourites for the month??
Don't forget to follow me on Twitter and check out my Youtube channel which is all on the side bar!!
Tell me what are your favourites this month of April??

Thanks for reading!!
